New Books Lead to Literacy
Hooked on Books provides classrooms with new, high-quality books, which encourages literacy and learning. We currently work with schools that have insufficient resources to purchase and stock appropriate books that help students develop more advanced skills and concepts.
This program also supplies books to Parents as Teachers, an early childhood support program that serves families from pregnancy until their children enter kindergarten. Additionally, Hooked on Books provides new books for each child who participates in our Operation School Bell program.
How it Works
School personnel are given a budget from Assistance League to shop there for age-appropriate, curriculum-applicable materials. They select materials to meet the specific needs of their students, including refugees, English Language Learners, emotionally challenged youth, and other diverse populations.
We drop ship paperback books to all Operation School Bell schools.
